Lip Filler: volume, contour and definition with hyaluronic acid
The lips are among the most demanding and most treated areas in aesthetic medicine. With cross-linked hyaluronic acid, a gel of chemically bonded hyaluronic acid molecules, volume can be built, the lip contour sharpened, asymmetries balanced and the vermillion border emphasised. Hyaluronic acid binds water in the tissue and creates a supple result that follows the natural movement of the lips and is fully broken down over time. The achievable result depends on the chosen viscosity and the injection technique.
Which viscosity does what on the lips?
Viscosity describes the firmness and shape stability of the gel. Soft to medium viscosities are used for the lips, depending on the desired result:
- Singfiller FINE V1 (low viscosity): stays soft and mobile, ideal for precise definition of the vermillion border, the Cupids bow and fine vertical lines. Expect definition and smoothing rather than pure volume.
- Singfiller DERM V2 (medium viscosity): offers more support and holds the built shape, for noticeable, balanced volume and a harmonious ratio of upper to lower lip.
- Singfiller DEEP V3 (firm viscosity): provides more projection and hold for a more pronounced, shape-stable build-up when clear volume is desired.
Techniques for lip treatment
- Linear threading: the gel is placed along the vermillion border in a retrograde pass, ideal for clear contour definition.
- Fanning: from one entry point the gel is distributed in a fan, giving even volume with fewer punctures.
- Bolus technique: targeted placement of small depots, for example to emphasise the tubercles of the upper lip.
Fine needles allow precise work on the contour, blunt cannulas glide through the tissue and can reduce the risk of bruising. The contour is placed superficially along the vermillion border, the volume slightly deeper in the submucosal lip body. About one millilitre per session is common.
Result and longevity
A first result is visible immediately, the final result after a few days once swelling subsides. Because the lips are well perfused and constantly in motion, the gel is broken down faster here than in calmer areas. The result usually lasts about six to nine months. If needed, the material can be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase.
Frequently asked questions
-
Which Singfiller variant suits the lips?
FINE V1 for the contour, DERM V2 for volume, DEEP V3 for a more pronounced build-up. The choice depends on the goal.
-
How long does a lip filler last?
Usually about six to nine months, as the lips are well perfused and mobile.
-
Which technique is used for the lips?
Linear threading along the vermillion border for the contour, fanning or bolus in the lip body for volume.
-
How much hyaluronic acid is used for the lips?
Often about one millilitre per session, depending on the baseline and the desired result.
-
When is the lip result visible?
A first result is usually visible immediately. The final result appears after a few days once the initial swelling subsides.
